Punjabi About Did you know that the word Punjab comes from Persian and means ‘The Land of Five Rivers’? It is the official language of the State of Punjab in India, but the biggest speaker group is found in Pakistan. It is one of the largest immigrant languages spoken in Canada. There are more than 100 million native speakers. Punjabi is one of the few languages that can be written in two different scripts, the Shahmukhi and Gurmukhi scripts.
