Two Araucanos playing bandy ball in Chili (1824)Arguably the most important library collection to be acquired by the University in its history, it comprises some 80,000 volumes of books, pamphlets, reports, typescripts and manuscripts with a date range from the early 16th century to the present day.

Explore 500 years of world history (pdf, 1,210 KB), an introductory leaflet about the collection is also available as a PDF file.

We have also compiled an overview of items relating to the First World War from the FCO Collection

Research support

Please remember that not all material can be found in our online catalogues. You may need to look at manual finding aids, such as the printed and card catalogues and hand-lists that can be found in our reading rooms. We are also happy to help with research proposals and are often able to identify uncatalogued items in our collections which may be of use.
