Respect your Library

Library Services are here to make your experience of studying in the library as comfortable and productive as possible. To help achieve this, it is important that everyone shows respect for others and the library itself.

•    Talk quietly in the quiet zones - Please be aware of how your voice can carry across the space and disturb others. Keep your voice low and conversations to a minimum.

•    Be silent in the silent zones - Please allow those who wish to study in silence the opportunity to do so. The quiet and discuss zones are available for you if you prefer not to work in silence.

•    No hot or smelly foods permitted, please dispose of all litter responsibly – As long as it does not disturb others you are welcome to bring snacks and lidded drinks into the library. So please, this means no smelly food anywhere in the library and please help keep the spaces neat and tidy by disposing of all litter responsibly.

•    Vacate your space for breaks. We appreciate that you may be studying hard over long hours, but when the library is busy there isn’t room for everyone to save a space - so please vacate your space if you are taking a break. We also advise you never to leave your valuables unattended, even for the shortest time, as unfortunately thefts do occur.

•    Respect the books - Please remember that library books are a shared resource and refrain from writing or highlighting in them. When you’ve finished studying please return your books to one of the trolleys provided around the library. This makes it easier for other people to find them and for the library staff to return the books to the shelves as quickly as possible.

Library Staff are here to help

We work closely with our Estates & Facilities colleagues to ensure that the libraries are clean and well maintained. Roving library staff are here to help, they can offer support with any basic enquiries you may have as well as monitoring the library environment throughout the day.
