Find your zone

Study with respect for those around you.

Three different zones for a library space that suits you, look at the floor plans to quickly see where the zones are in your library.

discuss_zone_425x160Discuss zones:

•    You may work together and use your phone

•    You may consume lidded drinks and cold snacks.

Quiet_zone_425x160Quiet zones:

•    Please keep any conversations brief and low-volume (whispering level), including no talking on your phone.

•    You may consume lidded drinks and cold snacks.

Silent_zone_425x160Silent zones:

•    You must not talk at all in silent areas (including on your phone) and should keep other noise to a minimum

•    You may consume lidded drinks but no food is to be consumed in this zone.

•    Please move to another zone if you need to talk, eat or undertake other tasks that may impact others' opportunity to study in silence.

Archives and Special Collections areas:

•    You must not consume any food or drink, including water, in the designated reading rooms

•    You may only use pencils (not ink or biro) or electronic devices

•    You must not rest notes or electronic equipment on original items. Book supports and document weights are supplied to facilitate the careful use of items and should be used as directed by staff

•    Self-service photocopying is not permitted

•    Serviced copying and digitisation is available at the discretion of designated staff. The use of digital cameras is also permitted subject to permit and at the discretion of designated staff.

Exceptions:

Some rooms and/or zones are also bookable teaching spaces. When a room is in use for a booked session, 'zoning' does not apply and expectations for behaviour will be set by the member of staff leading the session. This may include requiring you to relocate if necessary due to the nature of the session.

Please remember...

•    No hot or smelly foods permitted in any zone, please dispose of all litter responsibly – As long as it does not disturb others, you are welcome to bring snacks and lidded drinks into the library. This means no smelly food anywhere in the library and please help keep the spaces neat and tidy by disposing of all litter responsibly.

  • Lidded drinks are welcome in all zones.
