NHS ranks King's top of London institutions for nutrition & dietetics and physiotherapy

The NHS has ranked King’s at the top of London’s institutions offering training in Nutrition & Dietetics and Physiotherapy, in its annual performance results of healthcare professions education providers.

London Local Education and Training Boards (LETBs) have released the latest performance results for education providers which train the capital’s nurses, midwives and allied health professionals.

King’s was awarded a 100 per cent performance rating for Physiotherapy, and 98.2 per cent in Nutrition & Dietetics. 

Professor Tom Sanders, Head of the Division of Diabetes & Nutritional Sciences, says, ‘This is a fitting tribute to the excellent teaching in nutrition and dietetics here at King’s.’  

Ros Hilton, currently education lead in the Department of Physiotherapy, adds, ‘These results have been achieved through excellent commitment to learning and teaching and collaborative working of College staff, students and our education partners in practice’.

This information is used by LETBs (part of Health Education England, which is responsible for NHS staff education) as an indicator of annual performance. The information is designed to assess, monitor and facilitate improvement in the quality of education and training to London’s healthcare professionals, both students and post-qualification. 

Scores are based on multiple performance indicators including: recruitment and selection to identify the best prospective students; academic course content and best practice; staff research; practice placements; student feedback and student outcomes.  

In addition to exemplary results achieved in Nutrition & Dietetics and Physiotherapy, King’s has excelled in all of the assessed areas in which the College offers health professions training, including: midwifery (96.5% performance rating); adult nursing (91.7%); child nursing (97.5%); mental health nursing (93.0%); clinical psychology (100%); CPPD (100%).

In this sixth year of these performance results being published, a separate document has been produced that showcases the work of the education providers. The publication includes innovative projects leading to improvements in education and training, and ultimately patient care, and features King’s interprofessional pain management learning unit.
