Professor Ghulam Mufti, Professor of Haematological Oncology in the Faculty has been awarded an OBE in the 2017 New Year’s Honours for services to Haematological Medicine.
Professor Mufti is Head of the Section of Haemato-oncology, Division of Cancer Studies and is a Consultant Haematologist at King's College Hospital. He has published over 400 papers and chapters in scientific journals and textbooks on leukaemia’s and Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS). He heads the research groups at King’s working on the molecular genetics of MDS/aplastic anaemia/acute myeloid leukaemia, and is a member of the working group that produced national and international guidelines on the treatment and prognosis of MDS. He is also a founding member and chair of the UK MDS Forum.
Also recognised was Sir Cyril Chantler, Emeritus Professor and former Vice-Principal of King’s, who was awarded a GBE for services to Leadership in Healthcare. Sir Cyril received a Knighthood for services to medicine in 1996.
