What is Athena SWAN?

Athena SWAN Charter recognises commitment to advancing women's careers in STEMM. The charter has ten guiding principles.

In the last eight years, over half of all higher education institutions that are active in STEMM subject areas are now members. King’s has held a Bronze institutional award since 2008 and in 2014 the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine was granted five Departmental awards, followed by Six more in 2015.

  • Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative Care & Rehabilitation - Bronze award
  • Genetics & Molecular Medicine – Bronze award

  • Randall Division of Cell & Molecular Biophysics – Bronze award
  • Women's Health - Silver award
  • Division of Immunology, Infection & Inflammatory Disease - Silver Award
  • Centre of Human & Aerospace Physiological Sciences - Bronze award

CHAPS were awarded an Athena SWAN bronze award in October 2015, with the aim to upgrade this to a silver award in November 2016.

We are proud of our women scientists, who occupy roles from PhD student to Professor in STEMM. Read their short biographies here
