Helen Collins obtained a first class honours degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Bradford, followed by a PhD in cellular Immunology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Following postdoctoral positions with David Russell at Washington University Medical School, St Louis and with Stefan Kaufmann at the Max Planck Institute for infection Biology in Berlin, she joined the Division of Immunology, Infection and Inflammatory Diseases in 2002. She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2014.
In addition to her research interests, Helen has a significant interest in education. In 2014, she was appointed the Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Taught Education for the Faculty of Life Sciences & Medicine. She is the Programme Director for the MSc Immunology course and has recently been elected the Education Secretary for the British Society of Immunology. She is also a member of the Divisional and faculty Athena SWAN self-assessment teams.
