Carsten Flohr portrait photo Sept 2014 with tieCarsten Flohr studied at Cambridge and Oxford Universities and then trained in both paediatrics and dermatology. He was the first UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinician Scientist in Dermatology (2009-14) and was recently awarded a NIHR Career Development Fellowship. He joined St John’s Institute of Dermatology as Senior Lecturer in 2009 and was promoted to Reader in 2015 and now promoted to Professor in 2018. Professor Flohr is also a Consultant in Dermatology as well as Research & Development Lead at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK.


Professor Flohr has a particular interest in population-based dermatology research with a focus on atopic eczema.


He founded the Epidemiology Interest Group of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI) in 2010, was its Chair until 2013 and then its Secretary until 2015. He also chairs the British Association of Dermatologists Biologics Intervention Register (BADBIR) Data Monitoring Committee and is a Director of the International Eczema Council.


Professorr Flohr is Editor of the Evidence-Based Dermatology Section of the British Journal of Dermatology and the Clinical Trials Editor of the F1000 Atopic Dermatitis Section. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed papers.
