Genetics of Moderate to Severe Acne study

The 'Genetics of Moderate to Severe Acne' study ran between 2008 and 2014 and over 8500 people took part. The purpose of the study was to look at genetic material (e.g. DNA) in people with acne vulgaris.

The study involved a one-off study visit which included:

  • Discussing and completing a consent form with a research nurse
  • Providing some information about their medical history, family history, any treatments they may be receiving and their ethnic group.
  • Providing either a blood sample or a saliva sample.

As a result of analysing the genetic material a paper was published in Nature Communications in 2014:

Navarini, A.A. et al. Genome-wide association study identifies three novel susceptibility loci for severe Acne vulgaris

Nat. Commun. 5:4020 doi: 10.1038/ncomms5020 (2014)
