Dr Carsten Flohr wins senior NIHR fellowship award
Dr Carsten Flohr, Senior Lecturer and Consultant at St John’s Institute of Dermatology, is the first Dermatologist in the UK to win a senior career development fellowship from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
The Fellowship offers funding to outstanding individuals who have significant and successful post-doctoral experience and a clear long-term commitment to research.
The Fellowship builds directly on Dr Flohr’s NIHR Clinician Scientist Award research programme, is for five years and includes a PhD studentship as well as support for clinical trials focused on atopic eczema in children.
Professor Sean Whittaker, Co-Lead of the GRIID Clinical Academic Group which includes Dermatology said: “This is a fantastic achievement and an important acknowledgement of Dr Flohr’s research in atopic eczema, a condition that affects 20% of UK children and for which new therapeutic interventions are urgently required.”
Dr Carsten Flohr said: “I am delighted to have received this Fellowship from the NIHR. I look forward to developing my research programme in childhood atopic eczema further and thank my colleagues at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College London for their continued support of my work.”
