About Dr Vllasaliu

Driton is a registered pharmacist and gained his PhD in Drug Delivery (University of Nottingham, 2010). He spent two years as a postdoctoral research associate working on the development of improved in vitro intestinal models. He was then appointed to a lectureship at the University of Lincoln in 2012, where he contributed towards the establishment of a School of Pharmacy. Driton joined the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, King’s College London, in April 2017.

Research

Driton’s research interests centre around the understanding of the mucosal barrier in health and disease and overcoming this barrier to improve drug delivery. As part of this, he has specific interests in:

- Non-invasive (non-injection) delivery of biologics

- Nanomedicine

- Interaction of nanomaterials with the mucosal barriers

- Nanotoxicology

- Disease-induced mucosal barrier defects

- Creation of improved (more predictive) in vitro mucosal models
