Dr Phil Harrison, Senior Lecturer and Consultant Hepatologist at the Institute of Liver Studies, has been appointed to Chair the NICE (National Institute for health and Care Excellence) guideline development group for cirrhosis.
The National Institute for health and Care Excellence is a Non Departmental Public Body providing national guidance and advice to improve health and social care. The Chief Medical Officer has identified liver disease as one of the key issues for health as it is "the only major cause of mortality and morbidity which is on the increase in England".
The NICE cirrhosis management guidelines will set the standards for the investigation, diagnosis and management of patients with cirrhosis in England.
