The Department of Nutritional Sciences is a leading group of basic and applied scientists, clinicians (dietitians, doctors) and public health practitioners whose aim is to understand the mechanisms by which diet impacts health and disease and to translate these findings to develop evidence-based strategies for optimisation of health and the prevention and treatment of disease.
The Department of Nutritional Sciences is based mainly at the Waterloo Campus with facilities including a Metabolic Research Unit and access to the Clinical Research Facility at St Thomas’ Hospital.

Research in the Department of Nutritional Sciences is funded from a range of courses including the BBSRC, MRC, NIHR, NERC, the EU, industry and various medical research charities including British Heart Foundation, Kenneth Rainin Foundation and Truswell Trust.
The Department is led by Professor Kevin Whelan.
