The topic of diet and cardiometabolic health explores the relationship between dietary patterns and the risk of developing conditions related to cardiovascular and metabolic health, such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, a variety of plant and animal proteins, and unsaturated fats, exemplified by the Mediterranean, DASH, and healthy plant-based diets, is known to lower the risk of cardiometabolic diseases. On the other hand, a diet high in free sugars, saturated fats, refined starches, salt, and trans fats increases the risk of these conditions. Evidence for contribution of individual components of these diets is mixed, and our research aims to investigate the mechanisms by which aspects of healthy dietary patterns exert cardioprotective effects.
