Medicine and Dentistry Lecture Series (Year 11, 12, and 13 Online)

Over the course of this free 13-lecture programme, students will hear from speakers working in varied specialities and at different career stages in healthcare. Last year’s lectures included topics such as cardiology, prosthodontics, renal transplant, as well as the medical student experience. The lecture series is designed to give students an understanding of the range of opportunities in medicine and dentistry and the realities of being a healthcare professional.

Students will also learn about the different elements of the application process, such as the UCAT, personal statements, and interviews. Lectures will be held on Tuesday evenings at 6-7.15pm and will run in blocks of three throughout 2022. The first three lectures will take place on the 1st, 8th & 15th February. The remaining three blocks of lectures will take place in Spring and Summer 2022.

This programme is for students in Year 11, 12, 13 (and those on a gap year prior to applying to university) studying biology and chemistry who have only attended non-selective state schools since age 11. We welcome applications from students across the UK. The main application deadline of Friday 10th December 2021 has now passed. We will review new applications periodically during the programmes.

MedView and DentView (Year 12, In-Person and Online)

MedView and DentView are OfM’s flagship year 12 programmes for students interested in applying to medicine and dentistry from Greater London, Essex, and Kent. They consist of a three-day spring school followed by bi-monthly events in the lead up to the UCAS deadline of October to support students applications.

Successful applicants will participate in the following activities:

  • A clinical experience with King’s medical school or dental school.

  • Interactive workshops, including practice of clinical skills.

  • Advice and guidance on sitting the UCAT and preparing for interviews.

  • Learning about the opportunities and challenges of a career in medicine or dentistry from practising medics and dentists.

  • Finding out more about the student experience.

The application deadline for the 2022 edition of the programme has now passed. Please join our student newsletter by clicking here to be the first to hear when applications open for the 2023 edition of the programme.

London Med Schools Summer Programme 2022 (Year 12, online)

Funded by Health Education England, The London Med Schools online programme brings together four of London's medical schools (King’s College London, Queen Mary University of London, St George's University of London, and University College London) to give 75 Year 12 students from across the UK an opportunity to find out what it is like to study medicine in London. Working with patients and student ambassadors, participants will gain a greater understanding of the realities of being a doctor and the skills needed to succeed.

The main programme takes place from Monday 18th July to Friday 22nd July on Zoom.

The programme is aimed at young people in Year 12 from under-represented backgrounds at university and in medicine, and from areas in the UK with limited outreach from medical schools.

To be eligible students must:

  • Live in England but outside Greater London
  • Be in Year 12 as of September 2021.
  • Attended only non-selective state schools, sixth forms, or colleges since age 11.

Students will be prioritised who meet the most widening participation criteria or are from a priority group. We are particularly interested in working with students who are currently in the care of their local authority or are care experienced. Students from certain areas in England will also be prioritised. Please see the application form for more information.
