Postgraduate study in Mental Health & Psychological Sciences

The Mental Health & Psychological Sciences is home to many of the basic and evaluative sciences (e.g. psychology, economics, statistics, informatics) that underpin IoPPN research; and expertise (psychology, service research and improvement science) that improves the impact of scientific breakthroughs across King’s Health Partners (KHP). Our teaching and research links across the whole IoPPN. 

Mental Health & Psychological Sciences embraces research, education and clinical translation aiming to further understand and improve mental health and brain disease, and train the next generation of researchers and practitioners.

MSc Global Mental Health

The Global Mental Health MSc is jointly run by King’s College London and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, providing a unique course of study for students who wish to gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues surrounding the new discipline of global mental health. You will acquire the knowledge and skills required to design, implement and evaluate mental health programmes in low resource settings as well as learning how to conduct and critically evaluate research.

MSc Health Psychology

Our BPS-accredited MSc in Health Psychology is specifically designed for graduate psychologists who wish to go on to becoming registered Health Psychologists with the HCPC. Our Health Psychology course combines classroom teaching, individual study and practical work in statistics, a supervised research project and a 100-hour health-based clinical placement.

PGCert Applied Statistical Modelling & Health Informatics

Responding to the increasing demand for the acquisition, storage, retrieval and use of big data in order to solve real-world problems, this course provides world-class training in core statistical, machine learning and computational methodology. The course will apply to a broad spectrum of graduates preparing for a career in medical statistics and health informatics, or professional methodologists and clinical researchers working in the private or public health sector.

MSc Developmental Psychology & Psychopathology

Develop knowledge about the causes of typical and atypical psychological development, the standard psychological therapies and treatments available, and research methods and statistics relevant to this field. There is particular focus on development during childhood and on nature versus nurture to try to explain psychological development. The psychopathology part of the course focuses on the development of disorders such as autism, depression and ADHD. The course will provide you with both a research and clinical focus.

PGDip Cognitive Behavioural Therapies

Our Cognitive Behavioural Therapies (CBT) course provides practical, intensive and detailed training to equip you with the necessary skills to become an independent CBT practitioner in accordance with the BABCP guidelines. You will work in Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services and train in evidence-based CBT for adults with depression and anxiety disorders.

The PG Dip course equips students with a critical understanding of psychological models of psychosis and the skills to deliver high quality and creative cognitive behavioural interventions. The shorter PG Cert course focuses on clinical skills, for clinicians, or on theoretical background for researchers, academics and non-practitioners.

Benefit from comprehensive coverage of the field exploring how biological, behavioural and cognitive processes, along with family and wider social forces, can affect typical and atypical development.
