How do our courses work?

Most languages are offered from beginner to near native speaker, each level is taught in three parts (one part per term) and can be completed in 5 or 10 week blocks. You can choose from:

  • Intensive courses: taught week days or Saturday, for 5 weeks, each class is 3 hours in duration.

  • Standard courses: taught week days, for 10 weeks, each course is 1.5 hours in duration. Class times are 18.00 or 19.35 and available at Strand, Waterloo and Guy's campuses.

If you are beginning your standard language course with Part 1 this winter, you will need to complete a 5 week intensive course for Part 3 if you wish to complete your level in summer. Please see the table below.

Language assessments

If you are not a complete beginner, you will need to be assessed to be placed in the appropriate level. If you require an assessment, please email mlc@kcl.ac.uk and we will organise a phone assessment.

Take our  placement tests which are designed to test your linguistic abilities in order to place you in a course at the appropriate level. Each test consists of 30 multiple-choice questions on grammar and vocabulary. You should also take a look at our  language level descriptions before enrolling.
