Before you arrive

Before your start your course at King's, there are a few things you need to do online

1. Set up your IT account

A few weeks before you join us at King's, we will send you an email inviting you to set up your King's IT account. Your Welcome email will contain your King's username, which begins with the letter K and is followed by 7 numbers (eg. k0123456), and your temporary password.

If you have previously studied at King's, are still using the King's username quoted in the email, and your original password still works, then you can skip this step and go straight to completing Online Enrolment.

How to set up your IT account

  1. Go to the IT self-registration page
  2. Follow the instructions to set up your security questions and answers
  3. Create a password that you can remember
  4. You can now access your email using the Outlook web app. Your email username is your King's username plus @kcl.ac.uk (for example k1234567@kcl.ac.uk)

If you encounter any problems, please contact the IT Service Desk at 8888@kcl.ac.uk for assistance.

Before you arrive you may want to read more about the IT services available to new students, including information about free software and how to connect to wifi once you arrive on campus.

2. Complete online enrolment

Once you have set up your King's IT account, the next step is to complete Online Enrolment and upload your photograph for your Student ID card.

Online Enrolment should take 10-15 minutes to complete, and it involves answering a number of questions about yourself in order for us to create your student record. We will also require you to answer a series of questions set by the UK Government for statistical purposes.

How to complete online enrolment

  1. After you have set up your King's IT account, go to Student Records and log-in with your King's username (your K-number) and password.
  2. Once you've logged in, you will be taken to a page titled 'My Enrolment' where you can work through each section and answer the required questions.
  3. When you've finished, you will be presented with a confirmation screen and you should also receive a confirmation email to your KCL email address.
  4. If you haven't done so already, you will need to upload your photo for your student card (see instructions to the right).
  5. If you encounter any issues, please contact registry_services@kcl.ac.uk.

3. Download the Welcome to King's App

Download the 'Welcome to King's' app from your app store (iOS and Android). When you click into the app, select the 'Get Started at King's Guide' under the heading 'Discover.' If you are unable to download the app, you can view the desktop version via the link below.

You'll need to create an account to use the app, but this does not have to be with your King's email, and is not directly linked to your KCL account.

You can use the app to find out information about your academic induction, book onto an ID Card collection slot, and register for social events and activities. Please note that you cannot create an account or register for events on the desktop version.

Allow push notifications, as we'll be sending out important messages throughout September.

Are your vaccinations up to date?

There are two highly recommended vaccinations that students should get before or soon after arriving at King’s to ensure you are up to date with your immunisations. Measles, Mumps & Rubella (MMR) and Meningococcal ACWY.

Young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 years are susceptible to outbreaks of measles and mumps and to meningitis and septicaemia caused by meningococcal W strain. Over the past few years we have seen deaths from Men W in London and a resurgence of measles in this age group.  Measles is a highly infectious viral illness that can be very unpleasant and sometimes lead to serious complications. Please help protect yourself and others by ensuring you are vaccinated.
