A round of ap-paws to our Global Day of Service 2026 volunteers

Global Day of Service returned in style this Spring, with over 70 outstanding volunteers joining from all over world to give back to their communities and build connections that matter.

Throughout March, we were delighted to see alumni embodying King’s ethos of service to society. Activities ranged from spreading a love of reading across Karachi, to packing food parcels in London, Dallas and Washington DC, where Reggie the Lion lent a helping paw!

Malaysia

As this year’s events coincided with Eid, King’s College London Alumni Malaysia (KCLAM) teamed up with the Touch Lives Club (TLC) to embrace the festive spirit. Volunteers took part in TLC’s Raya Cheers 2026 event, delivering food parcels and other necessities to lower income communities ahead of the holiday.

The Raya Cheers initiative’s mission is to spread festive joy across Malaysia through community meals, charity initiatives and more.

Choo Teck Tan (Law, 1991) said: ‘As KCLAM, we take pride not in what we have, but in what we do together to make life a little better for others and this is a true privilege.’

‘Year after year, KCLAM comes together through the Global Day of Service to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I’m so proud of these alumni,’ Azielia Anne (International Political Economy, 2017) added.

Meanwhile, our London alumni were busy preparing meals for the Felix Project, the city’s biggest food redistribution charity. 15 King’s alumni and four staff members spent an action-packed afternoon at the charity’s warehouse, chopping fresh vegetables and packing delicious meals.

‘I truly enjoyed the enthusiasm and energy everyone brought to the centre, as well as their keenness to give back. Everyone genuinely wanted to be there. I am certain the families who receive them will feel the love that went into the process.’

USA

Across the Atlantic, two dedicated alumni spent an afternoon volunteering for Minnie’s Food Pantry in Dallas, one of the largest food pantries in North Texas.

In Washington DC, five alumni had an equally productive afternoon at the Central Kitchen, preparing and distributing meals to lower income people. The event was a roaring success, with King’s proud mascot, Reggie, joining the fun.

In New York, seven alumni gathered to support a New York Cares event to empower and support senior citizens to write their life stories. Also, New York Alumni film fans volunteered at the ReelAbilities’ Film Festival, showcasing ground-breaking films by and about people with disabilities.

Singapore

8 March marked International Women’s Day 2026. King’s College London’s Alumni Society Singapore (KCLASS) hosted a mental health awareness event to commemorate the occasion.

KCLASS partnered with mental health charity Silver Ribbon and the Centre for Domestic Employees (CDE), celebrating and supporting the pivotal efforts of domestic workers across Singapore.

China

Our intrepid alumni embarked on an afternoon of ‘plogging’ at the Olympic Forest Park in Beijing. This eco-friendly activity combines jogging, running or walking with picking up litter.

‘I’m grateful to everyone who joined and contributed their time and energy to make a positive local impact. I’m proud to serve King’s Beijing alumni community and continue building connections that matter.’

Pakistan

King’s Karachi alumni chapter helped spread the joy of reading to children across the city in the form of a Book Drive. Alumni donated storybooks, colouring books and early learning books to the Kiran Foundation, an education-focused organisation. This was a resounding success, with alumni donating 105 books in total.
