Biomedical Engineering tops Russell Group and London for student satisfaction
King’s College London’s Biomedical Engineering programmes have been ranked first among Russell Group institutions and first in London for the fourth consecutive year in the 2026 National Student Survey (NSS), with an overall satisfaction score of 89%, the highest in the programme’s history.

With more than 150 students in the last graduating year, the three-year BEng and four-year MEng degrees achieved the highest satisfaction score of any large cohort biomedical engineering programme in the UK and recorded the second-highest satisfaction score of any programme at King’s this year.
Completed annually, the NSS surveys final-year undergraduate students across the UK, capturing their views on their academic experience, including teaching, learning opportunities, academic support, organisation and management and student voice. This year’s results are supported by high levels of student engagement with approximately 70% of this year’s BEng and MEng Biomedical Engineering graduating cohort completing the survey.
The Biomedical Engineering programmes provide advanced training in medical technologies, combining engineering, healthcare and emerging digital technologies and graduates develop the technical and professional skills needed to thrive in rapidly-evolving fields including data science, artificial intelligence and medical technology innovation.
The programmes also deliver excellent graduate outcomes with many members of this year’s graduating cohort having already secured roles with leading employers or progressing to postgraduate study with leading institutions – for example, 40 students have secured places on master’s courses at Imperial College London and University College London.
Graduating student Saad Yonis has secured a place on the highly-competitive NHS Scientist Training Programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
Alongside this success, the School of Biomedical Engineering & Imaging Sciences maintained strong performance in this year’s Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES), recording overall satisfaction scores of 80%+ for its MSc programmes in Healthcare Technologies, MedTech Innovation & Entrepreneurship, and Clinical Sciences Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering.
The PTES gathers feedback from taught postgraduate students on their learning experience, in areas including teaching quality, engagement, assessment and skills development. Commenting on the School’s overall NSS and PTES performance, Professor Kawal Rhode, who is stepping away from his role as the School’s Head of Education to lead on King’s Integrated Engineering Education this year said:

The student satisfaction ratings really show how effectively our School works as a team to solve large-scale problems, such as delivering a complex set of educational programmes to a large number of students whilst maintaining excellent student outcomes and experience. I wish my successor the very best in their new role and I will stay involved as we launch new ways of working at King’s Engineering and new programmes with our partners at Cranfield University.”
