Under the agreement, high-performing undergraduates at SJTU Global College, an engineering-focused college delivering English-taught programmes, will have the opportunity to enrol in a master’s degree in engineering or informatics at King’s Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed during a meeting between Professor Shitij Kapur, Vice-Chancellor & President of King’s, and Professor Kuiling Ding, President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The two leaders also discussed broader areas of shared interest, including artificial intelligence, climate research and new approaches to teaching and learning, reflecting both universities’ ambition to enhance the student experience and address global challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration.

Professor Hesheng Wang, Dean of SJTU Global College, said: “Shanghai Jiao Tong University Global College is honoured to partner with the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences at King’s College London...Through this initiative, we aim to establish a robust partnership with King’s and create more educational opportunities for students from both institutions.”

Professor Simon Banks, Vice Dean (Education), Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences, said: “We are delighted to deepen our partnership with Shanghai Jiao Tong University through this new pathway. The agreement will create opportunities for students to learn across borders, draw on the academic excellence of both institutions and develop the skills to lead in their chosen fields.”

SJTU is one of King’s key partners in Mainland China and a leading research-intensive university, with recognised strengths in engineering and computer science. Institutional collaboration between King’s and SJTU began in 2013 and has since developed across several faculties through education partnerships, student mobility schemes and joint research programmes.

In 2024, SJTU’s School of Nursing and the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery & Palliative Care at King's signed an agreement enabling qualifying SJTU students to progress to King’s MSc Clinical Nursing or MRes Clinical Research programmes. The initiative supports the development of future healthcare leaders with expertise in evidence-based practice and clinical research.
