King's Volunteering Fairs help students build skills and community connections

More than 500 students and staff attended the 2026 King’s Volunteering Fairs during Student Volunteering Week to learn how they can support communities across the UK.

Held at King’s College London’s Strand and Guy’s campuses, the fairs featured 26 charities and community organisations representing a wide range of causes, including mental health and wellbeing, social mobility, support for people who have been forcibly displaced, environmental sustainability, and arts and culture. Attendees explored volunteering roles and discovered practical ways to make a difference alongside their studies or work.

Among those taking part were the Royal Ballet and Opera, Carers UK, The Conservation Volunteers and London STEM Ambassadors, alongside many other organisations working locally and nationally to address social and environmental challenges.

Lydia, a History and International Relations student and King’s Volunteering Ambassador, said:

I loved seeing so many different charities represented at the King's Volunteering Fairs. It really showed that there’s something for everyone and such a variety of ways to support people and communities. Volunteering is such a great way for students to discover what they're passionate about whilst building their skills at the same time.

The fairs strengthen links between the university and local communities, while helping students develop the skills and experience to support their future careers and contribute positively to society. Reflecting on the continued growth of the events, Naureen Abubacker, Head of Volunteering at King’s, said:

The fairs are the biggest events in our calendar, and they highlight just how powerful it is to bring people together around causes they care about. It’s a joy to welcome our brilliant partners, who do such vital work across our community, and to connect them with students who are eager to contribute, learn, and be part of their wider community.
