In this role, Professor Bell will be the principal advisor to the Chancellor and the Prime Minister on the macroeconomy and fiscal policy, leading the Treasury’s economics function and its work to deliver the government’s economic objectives.

Professor Bell joined King’s in January 2017 and held a number of leadership roles in King’s Business School, including as Head of the Economics Department. He is currently serving as Chair of the Migration Advisory Committee, an independent body that advises the government on migration issues. Before academia he had previously held roles at the Bank of England and the International Monetary Fund, as well as positions in the private sector, working as an economist and proprietary trader for hedge funds and investment banks in London.

We warmly congratulate Brian on his new appointment. While we will be sorry to lose him as a colleague who has contributed so much to the business school, we are delighted that he will be bringing his expertise to bear on such a crucial role and will keep in close contact with King’s Business School.
