Social Care Capacity Building Awardees Celebrate Achievements
Practitioners in research

Awardees of the Social Care Capacity Programme (SHARE) gathered on Friday 20 March 2026 to celebrate the successful completion of their programme. The event brought together awardees, their families, friends, managers and researchers from the Health and Social Care Workforce Research Unit (HSCWRU).
Supported by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC) South London, the SHARE programme provided social care practitioners with opportunities to undertake formal research training, conduct their own personal research projects and work with mentors from HSCWRU.
During the celebration event, awardees presented the findings of the work they had undertaken over the past two years, either through oral presentations or posters summarising their projects. The wide range of topics reflected the diversity of workplaces represented within the cohort. For example, Shulala Abbas presented on establishing a volunteering programme for the Alzheimer’s Society involving people from diverse ethnic backgrounds, while Anita Woods discussed family group conferencing in safeguarding adults. Poster topics included multi-agency support for people with hoarding behaviours and assessing the potential value of nurse practitioner roles in care homes.
Programme leads Cilla Harries and Maria Brent from Kingston University, together with Caroline Norrie from HSCWRU, described the awardees’ work as hugely impressive and inspiring. They also thanked the HSCWRU mentors and the Advisory group for their support with the programme.
