Research Fellow Antonina Semkina presented findings from the Policy Research Unit's New Roles study at the Organisational Behaviour in Health Care (OBHC) Conference 2026 held at the Saïd Business School in Oxford on 9 April.

Antonina's focus was on the care coordinator role introduced in England in 2019. Care coordinators 'help to coordinate and navigate care across the health and care system, helping people make the right connections, with the right teams at the right time' (NHSE, 2025).

The presentation formed part of a symposium at the conference on: 'Skill mix, workforce reconfigurations, new professional roles across health systems' (slide deck for this session).

The symposium was chaired by NIHR Advanced Fellow Yingxi Zhao who is based in Oxford. Others presenting in the session were colleagues from Oxford (including Mike English) and Manchester (Damien Hodgson from Manchester Metropolitan and Imelda McDermott from Manchester University). Gerry McGivern from King's Business School was part of the organising group for the conference.

The New Roles study, which is led by Unit Director Prof Annette Boaz, forms part of the Policy Research Unit's core work in its 2024-28 contract.
