Complaints Procedure

If you feel that there is an important issue in your programme that needs to be addressed, this can usually be dealt with at Departmental level. We are always happy to listen to students' concerns and do what we can to resolve them. We try to ensure there are are a variety of routes for you to raise complaints.

  1. If you have a concern relating to a particular module, please see the module lecturer. We would much rather that you come to see us as soon as a problem arises, than if you wait until the end of the year - we cannot do anything about the issue if we don't know about it! Please be assured that complaints never result in academic penalty, not least because all examinations remain anonymous, being labelled by candidate number.
  2. If you are still concerned about raising an issue about teaching you could contact your student representative to raise the issue in the Staff-Student Liaison Committee.
  3. If you feel that your particular complaint has still not been addressed, or if there is a different concern that you wish to bring to our attention, it is important that you contact your Personal Tutor, the Senior Tutor or your Programme Director. They can then take appropriate action, or advise you about what to do next.
  4. Finally, if you still feel that your concern has not been addressed, you can contact the Head of Department, but you should only do this if you have already been through the steps above.

Our intention is that this procedure will succeed in addressing your concerns. The Faculty and College do have a formal complaint procedure, but you are expected to resolve your concerns locally first, by taking the appropriate steps outlined above.
