Teaching Assistant Award

The Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards give students the opportunity to nominate Teaching Assistants for their good work in undergraduate and postgraduate modules. This enables the Department to recognise and reward those individuals whilst also celebrating and encouraging good practice.

Who can you nominate?

Students can nominate their favourite Teaching Assistant(s) (including tutors for Maple, Numerical Methods, Excel classes and Pop-In Tutorials) of the current teaching semester online. When making nominations, students are encouraged to consider whether the tutor:

  • engages with the class
  • communicates well
  • takes time to answer questions
  • breaks down difficult concepts
  • gives useful feedback

A panel comprising relevant academic staff will then review the nominations and award one or more Teaching Assistants with an Outstanding Teaching Award certificate and a prize of up to £250. In addition, the winner(s) will be invited to give a talk to the following year's Teaching Assistants to ensure that good practice is shared and perpetuated.

How can you nominate?

The nomination process is open twice a year - once in December and a second time in March.

Students will be invited by email to complete an online nomination.

The voting periods for 18/19 are

Semester 1 assistants: 3rd December - 14th December 2018

Semester 2 assistants:18th March - 29th March 2019
