Funding for PhD Research Degrees

There are a number of funding schemes available. Some cover both stipend (to cover living costs) and College fees, while others may cover fees only.

King’s College London and the Department of Physics have several funding sources for PhD studentships available. The main studentships are listed below. Please note that many other studentship schemes are available and you are encouraged  to refer to the King’s Graduate Study web-pages which provide a  comprehensive database of funding schemes.Please note that each funding scheme has specific eligibility requirements. EPSRC Doctoral Training Grant Studentships

Applicants wishing to be considered for an EPSRC DTA award should apply no later than the Spring 2018 to either Biological Physics & Soft Matter, Photonics & Nanotechnology or the Theory & Simulation of Condensed Matter group. All PhD applicants are automatically considered  for this awards when they apply to KCL Physics Department. No separate application form is required.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a full studentship (stipend plus fees), applicants must be a UK resident for a period of 3 years immediately prior to the date of application. Residents of other member states of the European Union are eligible for fees-only awards. Applicants from outside the European Union are not eligible for support from the EPSRC DTA grant.

 

STFC

Applicants wishing to be considered  for an STFC studentship should apply as soon as possible.

All PhD applicants are automatically considered for this award when they apply to the KCL Physics Theoretical particle physics & Cosmology G r oup. No separate application form is required. 

 

Eligibility

To be eligible for a full studentship (stipend plus fees), applicants must be a UK resident for a period of 3 years immediately prior to the date of application for an award. Residents of other member states of the European Union are eligible for fees-only awards. Full criteria is available at the STFC website and the KCL Department of Physics will check all applicants for eligibility.

NMS Faculty Studentships (NMSFS)
The Faculty of Natural and Mathematical Sciences will offer NMS Faculty Studentships (NMSFS) to start in September/October 2018. NMSFS will be available in the Departments of Chemistry, Informatics, Mathematics and Physics.

 Project PhD studentships

There maybe some fully funded studentships associated with specific funded research projects. You should check the relevant Research Group webpages for such vacancies. Specific conditions vary for each project. The applications should be made on-line via https://myapplication.kcl.ac.uk/ quoting the name of the prospective supervisor.
