New metamaterial system in the spotlight - News item

A team from the Experimental Biophysics and Nanotechnology research group at King’s College London, in collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast, have succeeded in combining state-of-the-art top-down ion beam nano-structuring with self-assembled metamaterial fabrication to realise a new type of designer optical metamaterial. 

These novel plasmonic metamaterials, via the combinational fabrication procedure which introduces Bragg scattering effects, allow a much broader range of optical properties to be designed while enabling free-space to access the highly confined, high spatial frequency modes supported by these hyperbolic metamaterials.
