Paul is responsible for the leadership and management of department operations to ensure a high quality, professional administrative service and the efficient day-to-day running of the Department of Physics. His role includes:

  • Working closely with the Head of Department
  • Leading and managing the administration team
  • Developing strategies and initiatives to improve support to Head of Department, academic staff and students
  • Ensuring a robust department level infrastructure for teaching and research
  • Ensuring the effective running of operations in conjunction with central offices including the Assessments and Records Centre, The Compass, the Study Abroad Office and the Centre for Arts & Sciences Admissions.
  • Providing advice and assistance to ensure effective completion and compliance with regulations and policy
  • Human resources

James is the primary point of contact for all general queries to the Department of Physics. This includes:

  • Working closely with Department Manager and the rest of  the administration team to support to Head of Department and academic staff
  • Human resource queries, including recruitment, contracts, and academic probation
  • Space (office, teaching and communal space)
  • Estates (repairs, maintenance, furniture, etc)
  • Asset register
  • Invoicing and purchasing support
  • Departmental promotional literature, and marketing

  • Travel arrangements / Bookings
