Since 2013, Andrea Coomber has served as the fifth Director of JUSTICE, a London-based human rights and law reform organisation established in 1957.
Western Australian born and bred, Andrea practiced as a solicitor in Perth before moving to New Delhi in 1998 to work as an international human rights lawyer. After working for human rights organisations in Geneva and Cairo, Andrea moved to London in 2002 as the Equality Lawyer and latterly Legal Director at INTERIGHTS. At INTERIGHTS she litigated key cases before the European Court of Human Rights and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, and trained judges and lawyers around the world on international equality law and approaches to international litigation.
Andrea has a BA/LLB (Hons) from the University of Western Australia and an LLM (Dist.) from the London School of Economics. She sits on the advisory boards of the Climate Litigation Network and the Initiative for Strategic Litigation Africa. Andrea is a trustee of BAILII (British and Irish Legal Information Institute) and is an Affiliate Member of the Centre for Law & Social Justice at the University of Leeds. She is an Honorary Master of the Bench of Middle Temple. In October 2019, Andrea was appointed to the Conduct Committee of the House of Lords.
