Biography

Dan graduated with a Masters in Chemistry from the University of York in 2012, staying on to complete a PhD in the research group of Prof. David K. Smith, researching the development of self-assembling, hybrid and multidomain photopatterned hydrogels for potential uses in biomedical applications. With a PhD funded through a Teaching Studentship, Dan gained a lot of experience working in teaching laboratories and assisting in designing practical courses, and also completed the York Learning and Teaching Award (a programme for gaining further skills in developing, evaluating and reflecting on teaching) in their final year.

Dan joined the Department of Chemistry at King’s College London in 2016 as a Teaching Fellow, becoming a Lecturer in Chemistry Education in 2019. Alongside the day-to-day delivery of lectures and labs across undergraduate year groups, and the King’s Foundation course, Dan works to develop creative and innovative teaching methods to better engage students, with particular interests in active learning methodologies, technology-enhanced learning, and inclusive education.
