Biography

Dr Despoina Koulenti, MD, PhDBoard-certified in internal medicine & intensive care.

Current appointment: Consultant, Critical Care Department, King’s College Hospital, London, UK.

Academic appointments: Visiting Professor at the University of Ioannina, Greece; Visiting Professor at the University of Thessaly, Greece; Honorary Research Fellow at UQ Centre for Clinical Research, The University of Queensland, Australia.

PhD on ICU pneumonia (Athens University); Post-doctoral Research Fellowship on Critical Care Infections (Capacity Area Teaching) at The University of Queensland (Prof. Jeff Lipman’s group).Focus: Clinical research on hospital-acquired infections & sepsis (especially, ICU setting), sCAP/HAP/VAP, MDR pathogens, antibiotic optimisation, AMS/AFS, and Medical Education. Involvement in development, conduct, quality control and analysis of large clinical research projects in the field of ICU infections, and participation in expert advisory boards, steering, adjudications, and data safety monitoring committees. Panel member of the VAP prevention guidelines of ESCMID (underway). Participation as a faculty member in world-leading congresses, such as the ESICM Annual Congress, ESAIC, ESCMID, ISICEM, and WICC.

Publications: >150 peer-reviewed articles and international book chapters (h-index 50, Google Scholar; FWCI >3, SciVal).

Associate Editor: Intensive and Critical Care Nursing; Critical Care: Sepsis and Severe Infection;

Editorial Board member: Journal of Intensive Medicine.
