Biography

Daniel Mann is a London based researcher and filmmaker. Mann’s holds a PhD from the Department of Media and the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths College. His dissertation focused on the application of habitual media in the context of the armed conflict.

As a Leverhulme Early Career Fellow, Mann is developing a research that examines the layered political, economic and environmental conflicts hidden in the cinematic appropriation of desert landscapes in the Middle East and North Africa.

Mann's films have been screened internationally at festivals and venues such as The Berlin Film Festival (Forum), The Rotterdam Film Festival, Cinema du Reel, The Hong Kong Film Festival, New Horizons and the ICA, London.

Teaching

Daniel Mann has taught courses in Media Arts, The Archeology of the Moving Image and Visual Cultures (Landscape and Power).

Public Engagement

Daniel Mann has been involved with various projects that combine research with practical filmmaking and image production. In the Spring of 2018, Mann organised a workshop with Dr Susan Schuppli titled 'Sensible Cinema'. He was involved in curating several film screenings, including the organisation of the 2016 November Film Festival.

Mann has been also part of the Forensic Architecture investigation into Umm Al-Hiran in 2018.
