Biography
About me
Following a career in tourism, marketing, and education management and development, Rachel joined the Centre for Language, Discourse and Communication in the School of Education, Communication and Society in 2016 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate.
Her project builds on her doctoral research and examines the role of the hair-salon/barber-shop in older people’s identity constructions.
Research interests
Rachel's research interests centre on the interactional construction of identities, particularly related to (older) age, gender and institutional roles. She uses a linguistic ethnographic methodology, combining fine-grained analysis of recorded audio/video-recordings with ethnographic data derived from observation, interviewing and documents.
