Elizabeth Pisani is an academic researcher and the director of Ternyata Ltd., a public health consultancy. Her research investigates the ways in which politics, economics and culture influence public health. Most of Elizabeth’s field epidemiology work has been in HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. She has worked with the World Health Organisation and UNAids on the spread of HIV/Aids, as well as developing HIV and behavioural surveillance systems for many governments, including China and Indonesia. Once a journalist for Reuters and the Economist, she still regularly contributes to a variety of publications including the New York Times, the Financial Times, the New Yorker and Prospect Magazine.
