Biography
Gustavo do Amaral Loureiro is a Visiting Research Associate and Postdoctoral Researcher (Cátedra Rio Branco) in the King's Brazil Institute.
Gustavo received his Doctor of Political Science from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), and his Master of Political Science from the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO). He received his Bachelor of International Relations from Unilasalle-RJ.
Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher at the Rio Branco Chair (King's College London/CAPES/Fiocruz Minas). He is also a member of the project Curadoria Pública, linked to the Interinstitutional Center for Social Policy Analysis (CIAPSoc/UFMG).

Gustavo's research has often linked human rights and environmental policy as part of the same framework of human dignity. During his PhD, Gustavo researched the role of social movements, political engagement and participation in policy change, through a case study of the privatization of water and sanitation services in the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), through the lens of gradual institutional change and advocacy coalition framework. His current research is a continuation of this research agenda, as a part of the Cátedra Rio Branco, tracking the privatization efforts in Brazil's sanitation.
