Jack is a PhD student in the Department of Physics. His research focuses on the optical forces that occur at the nanoscale and is funded by the European Research Council.

He graduated from King’s College London in 2017 with a 1st class MSci in Physics and began his PhD position in Dr Rodríguez Fortuño’s group in the same year.

Thesis title

Optical forces from near-field nanoscale interactions

Research interests

  • Surface-enhanced lateral optical forces
  • Levitation of optically magnetic nanoparticles
  • Repulsive Casimir forces
  • Directional near-field coupling of light with polarisation control

PhD supervison

PhD supervisor: Dr Francisco Rodríguez Fortuño
