Biography

Dr Jessica Smith is a Research Associate on the ESRC-funded critical law reform project, Future of Legal Gender.

Jessica joined the project after completing her PhD in Law at the University of Kent, where she was an Assistant Lecturer, with a thesis entitled ‘Registration and Imagination in the Everyday of Civic Space’. She has wider research interests in bureaucracy, state documentation, mobility, legal geography, and socio-legal studies. Dr Smith’s research has been published in the Sociological Review and The Conversation.

She is a graduate of Durham University (LLB, 2013) and the University of Kent (LLM, 2015; PhD, 2021), and an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
