Lecturer in Political Economy
Jonathan Benson is a Lecturer in Political Economy in the Department of Political Economy at King’s College London. His general research interests are in political and democratic theory, political epistemology, and theoretical political economy. Before joining King’s, he completed a PhD in Politics and an MA in Political Economy both at the University of Manchester.
Jonathan’s research has focused on the relationship between knowledge and democracy, and what this means for both the theory and practice of democratic politics. His PhD thesis was titled ‘An Epistemic Theory of Deliberative Democracy’. It investigated how democratic institutions can make good decisions in terms of justice or the common good, and what role this might play in a wider justification of democratic rule. He has also published on issues such as deliberative and participatory democracy, the relationship between democracy and the market, the limits of markets, and environmental politics.
