PhD Student, Department of War Studies

Biography

Kira Tuominen is a PhD researcher in the Department of War Studies, King’s College London. Her doctoral research is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) via the London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP). She holds an MA in International Conflict Studies and a BA in International Relations, both from King’s College London.

Her interdisciplinary research is broadly interested in the theme of mobility in the context of the climate crisis, bringing together literatures on International Political Sociology, Critical Border and Migration Studies, and Environmental and Climate Justice. Her thesis explores the politics of struggle and knowledge present in ‘climate mobility justice’ as an emergent form of theory and practice.

Prior to her doctoral research, Kira’s professional experience includes roles in research and communications at humanitarian organisations, most recently at the UN Refugee Agency UNHCR.

She co-organises the PhD Working Group of the Research Centre in International Relations (RCIR) and was the co-convenor of the DoingIPS PhD Seminar Series in 2025/2026.
