Leila Hermosilla Andrivet completed her BSc in Biological Sciences with a specialisation in Development, Regeneration, and Stem Cells at the University of Edinburgh. Through university courses she discovered a strong passion for the field and became particularly enthusiastic about its potential to shape the future of medicine. As part of the Amgen Scholars programme, she gained her first research experience at the Pasteur Institute, where she studied the role of epithelial apoptosis in Drosophila wing development.

She is currently part of the Wellcome Trust PhD programme "Advanced Therapies for Regenerative Medicine"(cohort 2024) at King’s College London. She previously completed the MRes component of the programme, during which she undertook three laboratory rotations. These experiences allowed her to explore a range of research fields and techniques and to work with diverse teams. She has now joined Prof. Spagnoli’s lab to pursue her PhD in pancreas development.

Her project focuses on the co-differentiation of endodermal and mesodermal cells towards pancreatic fates. She is particularly interested in investigating the crosstalk between these two lineages during pancreas development, with the aim of improving our understanding of organogenesis and contributing to the development of regenerative strategies for the pancreas.
