Maryam joined King's in 2019 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Levitated Nanophysics Group in the Department of Physics. Her research has focused on cooling the librational motion of anisotropic nanoparticles in levitated optomechanics, as well as controlling levitated nanoparticles to produce low-noise sensors using structured lights.

Prior to joining King’s, Maryam was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Leeds in the Soft Matter Research Group where she was exploring liquid crystal based elastomers and their applications as photoelastic sensors.

She attained a PhD in Physics at the University of Ljubljana in 2015, and conducted her PhD research in the Soft Matter Lab at the Jozef Stefan Institute under the supervision of Professor Igor Musevic. During doctoral study, she was working on liquid crystal droplets as tunable microresonators and microlasers. She was also investigating the manipulation of colloidal particles with the optical tweezers as elements for soft photonics. Her PhD research project was honoured as one of top-10 important scientific achievements, the only one in Physics, at the University of Ljubljana in the year 2015.
