Biography

Patricia Zunszain is a Professor of Multidisciplinary Mental Health Education in the Department of Psychological Medicine at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King's College London.

After obtaining a PhD in Organic Chemistry in her native Argentina, Patricia came to the UK to do post-doctoral work in Medicinal Chemistry at University College London, which was followed by Biophysics research at Imperial College London.

In 2007 she joined the IoPPN, using her diverse set of skills to translate basic science findings into clinically relevant outcomes, while educating students and researchers. As Student Achievement and Academic Skills Lead for the faculty she generates and implements initiatives to improve the overall experience of undergraduate and postgraduate students, both academically and as individuals.

She designs and organizes training for BRC-funded PhD students, providing them with a comprehensive set of academic and professional skills. She designed and leads MSc modules, including 'Self-Identity and Intercultural/Intergenerational learning', one of the first Service-learning modules within the University, and co-designed 'Time to Thrive', a programme to promote personal growth and wellbeing.

Patricia takes particular pride in supervising students, focusing now on biochemical and social aspects of depression, resilience, diversity and neuroeducation. She has been awarded the IoPPN Best staff contribution to PGR student experience, the IoPPN Personal Tutor of the Year and King’s College London Health Faculties Parade of Stars (Teaching Innovation) recognition.
