Research interests and PhD supervision
- Philosophy of language
- Philosophy of mind
Dr Hodgson is interested in a cluster of issues in philosophy of language, metaphysics, and philosophy of mind that go back to the beginnings of analytic philosophy. More specifically, he is interested in whether there are propositions, things that we, e.g., mean and believe, what role they play in our theories of language and mind, and what they are like. He is also interested in how mental and linguistic representations connect thinkers and speakers to the external world, and how we communicate our thoughts.
Dr Hodgson has taught logic, philosophy of language, and metaethics.
