Director of the Brazil Ensemble
Rita Fernandes is a BMus graduate from King's College London and currently a music journalist at The Strad magazine. Originally a violinist, she has also worked in event management and directed various music ensembles throughout London. This includes recent projects with the Brazil Ensemble at the Brazilian Embassy and during the 2020 Brazil Week. As Director of the Brazil Ensemble, Rita collaborates with the Brazil Institute's Director, Dr Vinicius de Carvalho, to put together concerts celebrating contemporary Brazilian music, often in the context of the institute's lectures and events. Along with taking care of the ensemble's administrative side, such as fixing players and venues, helping to programme concerts, and managing the orchestra, she also acts as the leader of the ensemble as a violinist.
