Roberta Sakai is a PhD student at the Brazil Institute, having commenced her studies in January 2014. She holds a master's in Theory and History of Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of São Paulo (IAU-USP). An architect and urban planner, she has also held positions in the Brazilian private and public sectors.
Thesis title: 'Urban diplomacy: Is there place for South-South cooperation?'
Roberta's current research project looks at a particular topic within the context of the ongoing Brazil-Africa cooperation. It examines the transfer of knowledge in urban governance, housing and the upgrading of informal settlements that different Brazilian partners are providing to Mozambique.
