Senior Research Technician

Biography

Sharwari achieved a Master's degree in Microbiology from Jiwaji University, India. She had further training to investigate cell metabolism and the effects of gamma rays at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Mumbai, an area of research which she found fascinating. Following a move to the UK in 2007, Sharwari joined Prof Michael Marber's Lab, in the area of Cardiovascular Research, at KCL in 2009 working on the mechanism and consequence of autoactivation of p38 alpha mitogen-activated protein kinase promoted by TAB1, an event that occurs during myocardial ischemia, and identifying the substrates of p38 alpha mitogen-activated protein kinase. After a career break, in Feb 2018, she rejoined the Cardiovascular Sciences Section of the School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences, as a Senior Research Technician. She currently works with Dr Adam Nabeebaccus to assist in his research into the role of O-GlcNAcylation in cardiac function, especially its complex regulation in the heart and the effect on cardiac diseases that lead to heart failure.

Her professional experience and academic background span across different research areas and settings, from bulk drug pharmaceutical preparation to organizing and assisting varied biochemical and laboratory assays in diverse research institutes. Her broad range of experience and skills in research techniques and working environments led to her development as a Senior Research Technician. She enjoys every part of her work.
