Biography

Suzanne Scott is a Health Psychologist and Reader in Health Psychology at King’s College London Faculty of Dentistry, Oral & Craniofacial Sciences. Her work has advanced the understanding of symptom appraisal and help-seeking behaviour for symptoms cancer. This work has been used to develop and evaluate theory-based interventions to encourage timely healthcare use, including training for the dental team in how to communicate about oral cancer during routine consultations.

 

Research interests:

  • Processes of symptom perception, symptom appraisal and help-seeking behaviour, especially for symptoms suggestive of cancer.
  • Model of Pathways to Treatment
  • Applying theoretical frameworks in order to develop and evaluate theory-based interventions to encourage appropriate and timely healthcare use.
  • Developing valid and reliable measurement tools for use in early detection research
  • Dental anxiety
